Healing Is Not About Fixing ~ It's About Remembering
We live in a world that constantly pushes the idea of self-improvement. We're told to fix ourselves, correct our flaws, and strive to be better. But what if healing isn't about fixing at all? What if it's about remembering who you truly are?
Many people come to healing sessions with the belief that they are broken. They say, "I need to be fixed," or ask, "Can you help me fix myself?" They carry the weight of life’s challenges, convinced that the world has shattered them.
But in shamanic traditions, we don’t see brokenness. We see parts of you that have been forgotten, left behind, or disconnected. Healing isn't about repairing something that is damaged; it's about reconnecting with the wholeness that has always been within you.
Shifting the Focus from Fixing to Remembering
When we shift our focus away from fixing ourselves and instead turn our attention to remembering who we are, everything changes. Think of yourself as a river. A river doesn’t try to fix itself. It flows, adapts, and sometimes, it simply needs to remove some debris to restore its natural path. Similarly, healing is about clearing away what blocks your flow so that you can reconnect with your authentic self.
“You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?”
As Rumi beautifully reminds us, "You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life?" You are not meant to be burdened by the idea of being broken. You were always whole; you may have just forgotten your wings.
A New Perspective on Healing
Instead of asking, "What do I need to fix about myself?" try asking, "What do I need to remember about myself?" You are not broken. You are in the process of remembering.
“You are not a problem that needs solving.”
Eckhart Tolle teaches, "You are not a problem that needs solving." The path to healing is not about finding faults but about rediscovering the innate wisdom and wholeness that already exist within you.
Take a moment to sit with this idea. What is one thing about yourself that you are ready to remember today?
Let that be your starting point.
